Ледниковый период, 20000 лет назад Землю населяют люди и животные. Однажды саблезубый тигр Диего (озвуч. Денис Лири), лохматый мамонт Манфрид (озвуч. Рэй Романо) и сумчатый ленивец Сид (озвуч. Джон Легуизамо) находят в снегу на берегу реки человеческого ребенка.
С этого момента три незнакомца становятся товарищами. Они объединяются вместе, чтобы проделать длинное опасное путешествие и вернуть ребенка людям. Каждый из троих животных собирается вернуть человеческого детеныша по своим причинам: мамонт Манфрид - потому что страдает от недостатка своей собственной семьи, ленивец Сид - потому что у него просто доброе сердце, а тигр Диего тешит этим благородным поступком свое самолюбие.
В любом случае трое новых друзей вместе спешат навстречу опасностям. Чтобы вернуть потерянного ребенка человеческому племени им предстоит пройти ледяные пещеры, преодолеть потоки лавы, а также открыть друг другу свои секреты...
